Heat Pump Water Heaters in Westchester County
Serving Customers Across the Hudson Valley
If you have ever sat and watched a pot of water come to a boil, you have likely been surprised by how long it takes. The flames or electric heating elements in our range tops can pump quite a bit of energy into this water, and yet it takes a considerable amount of time for the temperature to come up high enough for the water to start to bubble. Your water heater has to contend with this same challenge, only on a much larger scale. That means any efficiency gains you can make in this critical appliance can make a massive difference in your utility bills. This is where heat pump water heaters excel and why they are such a popular upgrade for homeowners looking to cut back on their energy consumption.

Why Choose a Heat Pump Water Heater?
Heat pumps can dramatically improve your quality of life in extremely impactful ways. While you may not realize it, your water heater is one of the most heavily used appliances in your home. This applies to many businesses as well, where the need for hot water can sometimes outpace even heavy-use homes. Because hot water takes so much thermal energy to produce, heat pumps are incredibly effective at reducing the amount of energy it takes to bring that water up to temperature. This means great savings and even a reduced carbon footprint!
Here are a few great reasons why customers choose to install a heat pump water heater:
- No carbon emissions. Unlike other water heaters that produce exhaust, heat pump water heaters do not burn any fuel and thus do not need a ventilation system. They also do not produce any carbon monoxide, so they’re safe to use in nearly any environment.
- Reduced energy consumption. Because these systems are so efficient with how they collect and transfer heat to your water, they can cut down on your energy bills, especially in homes that use a fair amount of hot water.
- Energy credits. Heat pump water heaters may qualify for a federal IRA tax credit of up to 30% of the cost of installing the unit. New York State’s Clean Heat program also offers further incentives on top of that!

How Heat Pump Water Heaters Work
Heat pump water heaters are a significant technological step forward for an appliance that hasn’t seen a whole lot of major advancements since they were first invented. Rather than relying on burning a combustible fuel source to generate the heat that brings your tank of water up to temperature, a heat pump works similarly to how your air conditioner or an HVAC heat pump would work: collecting ambient heat from the atmosphere, compressing it, and then filtering it into the water in your tank by running refrigerant through a coil located inside the tank. The technology is nearly identical to how a heat pump heating system would work for your home. And, unlike a tankless water heater, that means you can install a heat pump water heater without needing to outfit your unit with an exhaust system for gas emissions.
However, this is not the only way these units can heat water. Most systems come equipped with traditional electric heating elements, just like the ones you find in a standard water heater tank. This not only allows for your water heater to refill and reheat at high speeds, but it also gives your system the ability to heat water when ambient temperatures dip down to levels that would hinder a traditional heat pump. For those whose water heaters are located in the attic, garage, or other area that isn’t climate-controlled or as well-protected from extreme temperatures, this allows the unit to operate reliably, no matter the weather.
